Icons (previews) not showing

On my Macbook (Catalina 10.15.2)


For pictures and quicktime videos (.mp4) the icons show on my Macbook, however for files I have set to open with VLC player (newest version 3.0. it doesn't show preview icons for example for .avi and .webm files.


On Finder, if I go to view > view options , "show icon preview" is selected (hint it shows pictures and .mp4) so that's not the issue.

VLC does not include a thumbnailer for the Finder to generate previews and it cannot create those previews itself (in contrast to mp4), so it doesn't show them. Regrettably, this is the expected behavior.
