Lag/stutter using Elgato Cam Link 4K Capture Device in VLC

Postby nickharambee » 07 Dec 2019 00:57

Hi,

I am using an Elgato Cam Link 4K with my 2012 iMac, in order to run a variety of HDMI sources into it. With ScopeBox I get a perfect signal coming in to the Mac as a source with 50 FPS, but when I try to use the Cam Link 4K as a Capture Device in VLC, the playback/stream stutters a lot and stops at times. I have done some searching online which mostly suggests increasing the caching time in the input codec settings in VLC (I have tried increasing them all, but suspect it's just the Live Capture and possibly Network Capture settings that I should be increasing) - I have tried this - saving and restarting VLC but with no difference in playback. Because the playback is so much better in ScopeBox I am thinking that there's something else that is probably not working as intended and it's not just a caching issue, but I may be wrong.

I'd love to get the Cam Link 4K working with the true fullscreen functionality of VLC (which isn't quite possible in ScopeBox), so would be glad of any advice. Or maybe someone knows about application that would let me view the Cam Link 4K live capture in fullscreen?

Thanks

Nick
