How to add videos to the VLC app without iTunes?

I’m using wifi transfer and it works.

I can’t figure out how to get a video off a hard drive into the phone via finder. But to transfer a video to VLC just drag and drop it into the VLC folder using finder in the files section of your phone.

Now I cannot move the SRT files into my iPad via the network downward with file servers. Any way to go about this?
