Get the GeneralUser GS sound font. Then select that file.
I had had this same problem since 2014 when Windows XP ended, and I was using Windows media player on that. I started Linux and put on the VLC media player. I have had Linux Mint 32 and 64 bit, and now MX Linux. I still use both Mint 18.1 32bit and MX Linux 19 latest version. It seems to have it's own sound font in the repositories that install on the fluid synth install. They should change the default sound font to this one. It sounds a lot better.
