Can the 'Continue' button timeout be increased, or made configurable?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Can the 'Continue' button timeout be increased, or made configurable?

Postby neekfenwick » 22 Jun 2019 17:38

Sorry if this has been covered before, but a Google search just showed people wanting to configure whether Continue was an option or not.

My problem is that I frequently re-play a video file in VLC, and if I have been watching that video before there is a 'Continue' button shown in the titlebar area, which is absolutely awesome, but it disappears in about 5 seconds, and the timeout is not configurable. (please tell me I'm wrong if I'm wrong)

This is too short in my experience. I know we are dealing with confirmation bias, but it seems to me that the Continue option is only visible about 50% of the time I need it. I have got used to selecting a video, usually from the "Recent" file list, and being very attentive to spotting the usually small "Continue" button very quickly, because I know it will disappear very quickly. I have a 4K monitor, which maybe makes the button smaller, but does not really exacerbate the problem, which is that the "Continue" button disappears after some time that I cannot control.

I'm usually juggling children, or a drink, or that futon that just fell over, or any number of things that are happening after a/ me choosing to play a video that we were playing earlier, and b/ the Continue button disappearing and me swearing.

I guess my perfect solution would be a configurable timeout on the "Continue" button, which I would set to about 20 seconds, myself. Everyone is different, which is why it should be configurable.

Thank you.
