Plex support

Postby Finl1 » 15 Jun 2019 17:14

Hi,

Trying to connect to my Plex server (latest version) using latest version of Plex on iOS

Details I have tried are:

local Network > connect to server > Plex tab

server = 192.168.0.10
Port = 32400
User = jsmith@yahoo.com (not my real name just example format)
Password = Password1 ( not my real password just example)

I keep getting the error message “server connection failed, please check you server address and credentials “

Q does VLC actually support PMS any more?

Q am I inputting correct details into the app?

DLNA works fine and connects OK

Also setting my local LAN address in PMS as allowed to not Auth allows the connection to work, however trying to understand why the details why it won’t allow a normal login to work as trying to get this to work remotely but for some reason adding remote IPs in the network allowed not to Auth doesn’t seem to work.

Note Connection to Plex using the Plex app works remotely but only paid to stream would like VLC to work so have option to download locally. The Plex pass is too expensive to switch this feature on and Infuse is also expensive too.

Anyone managed to get the above setup to work?

Lee

I am having the same issue.

I tried my plex account as well as making a user in the "Users and Sharing" section of the server admin page. I set a pin which I used in vlc on iOS in the password field. I also tried using no password and no username.

This is because you claimed the plex server. VLC doesn't support claimed servers or the login protocol that plex uses. It is this way, because plex wants to monopolize and track what you are playing/streaming through their "apps". This is also why the "remote" option forces you to claim the server and log into their servers to use it. If you want to do that, use their app.

If you want to use VLC with plex, you cannot claim the plex server. If you already have, uninstall plex, delete all the plex local files, then reinstall it and avoid logging into plex (if possible) or claiming your plex server through their servers. If your system doesn't support DNLA broadcasting, you can connect to it directly via its IP under the "connect" option in VLC.
