Navigate Playback by Increments of 10%

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Navigate Playback by Increments of 10%

Postby eno2001 » 22 Mar 2019 23:29

New member here... I did a few searches in the forums and was unable to find any questions about usage that match what I'm looking for, so I thought I would post a new topic. Being a "keyboard jockey" I don't like having to lift my hands off the keys and use the trackpad on my media center. Another media player I've used for a long time has a really really cool feature I've not seen reproduced anywhere else yet. To save on key strokes, one can immediately jump in increments of 10% to any location in the media file. Ctrl-1 moves playback 10% into the media file. Ctrl-2 moves playback to 20%, and so on. This is a much better way of moving near a location that you last left off in playback with a minimum of key strokes.

Instead of moving in increments of seconds, minutes or ten minutes, one can simply go directly to any of those percentage locations up to 90%. This is excellent when you're trying to locate a position in a 36 hour video file and you don't want to scroll with a mouse. Does VLC have any similar capability? I've looked over the key bindings and haven't seen anything like it, but that doesn't mean it's not there... it could be a hidden feature given that it's likely not a commonly used feature. Second to that, is there any way to customize VLC to allow for that kind of navigation in any media file?

Please let me know if this is not the right place for this question or if I need to provide more information.

Thank You,

There is no such thing in VLC, for now, sorry.

I am searching for such a useful feature/plugin, too.

But it's not me in this thread ;)https://www.reddit.com/r/VLC/comments/e ... ow_to_get/
