CentOS 4.2 - Weird Issues

Postby codered10 » 10 Dec 2005 23:49

Hello everyone - thanks in advance for your help/advice.

I am running CentOS 4.2 on a P4 box.

I've installed Videolan-Client 0.8.1 from Dag Wieers' repository using Yum. Everything seemed to go okay on this install.

However, when I use the wxwindows GUI to open a file, it will not play back. I've tried several file types (ogg, wav, mp3) and I've tried a CD track all with the same results. The window will show the file length, but the time never moves from 0:00.

When I attempt to play a file from the CLI I get an error stating: main input error: no suitable access module for [file...] When I try to play the CD, VLC launches normally, and the disk spins up, but it does not play.

The audio on my system does work with other audio programs.

So, my question becomes:

1. Do I need to change something about my install to make it work?
2. Do I need to manually compile the binaries?
3. Am I missing something totally obvious?

I am somewhat new to the whole linux world, but will try to get any info you ask for to help troubleshoot the problem.

Again, thank you for any help you can provide.
