No Video Controller On Second Monitor

Postby serendigity » 25 Jul 2018 15:05

Hi, I am using a 55" 4K Panasonic OLED TV as my second monitor through a high quality HDMI cable I have connected to my 5K 27inch iMac, set up with the TV as the secondary monitor and it works fine. I can drag apps and windows between the two and move the mouse across and back between the monitors ok. In VLC 3.0.3 preferences I have video settings as per below. When I play a video it starts up and it then commences playing full screen on my TV as I would expect. Playback is fine. However, the controller briefly appears on my iMac screen and then vanishes and I cannot induce it to appear at all on my second monitor TV screen... If I move the mouse around on the second screen nothing happens there but the controller bar appears on my primary iMac screen briefly. If I am fast enough moving my mouse across I can grab it and drag it across to the second monitor, but it will not stay on the second monitor between VLC sessions, i.e. as soon as I quit the app it reverts to appearing on the wrong screen once more. Am I using the incorrect settings? Why will the controller not understand which monitor is being used for playback? Or is this a bug in VLC? I have a track pad which would make it really easy to control videos, but I have to go to my computer, take the video out of full screen and then do whatever controls to skip the credits on binged TV episodes etc before going back to full screen. A real nuisance. Anyone else experiencing this problem with Mac? I am using latest OS version High Sierra 10.13.6.

Enable Video - Checked
Show Video within the main window - Checked
Pause the video playback when minimised - Unchecked
Float on Top - Checked
Window Decorations - Checked
Start in fullscreen - Checked
Black screens in Fullscreen mode - Checked
Use native fullscreen mode - Unchecked
Fullscreen Video Device - Screen 2 (3840x2160)

After updating to the High Sierra and VLC 3.04, I have the exact same problem. It's really annoying.

Now using MacOS Catalina and latest version of VideoLAN and the same problem is still there years later. Come on guys, please at least have a look, it cannot be that large an issue to resolve, surely?
