VLC for UWP and M3U

This is a feature-request, i hope this is the right topic.

I have a FRITZ!WLAN Repeater DVB‑C

This works with 'VLC for UWP' on PC and Lumina 650. But the channel list is a M3U. 'VLC for UWP' can not open M3U.

I have to paste the URL in Network. This works and the URL stored in the list under Network.

But the Entrie looks like this:
rtsp://192.168.1.2:554/?freq=130&bw=8&msys=dvbc&mtype=256qam&sr=6900&specinv=0&pids=0,16,17,18,20,2901,2902,2903,2904,2908

And there are 140 Channels!

I think, other url`s are not readable too. Dreambox may be have the same problem (here is a post form 2015 in the forum)


'VLC for Desktop' open the M3U and shows the channel list by the metadata

I know the problem with UWP and path in a M3U. Perhaps you can create a new extension like .nsl (network stream list) and open a renamed M3U like 'VLC for Desktop'?

I'm not too familiar with the m3u issues specific to UWP. Could you share your m3u file so I can have a look?

The problem is not my M3U, 'VLC for UWP' don't load any M3U.

-There is a 'open file' in 'browse' but the FileOpenPicker has no .m3u .
-Windows shows only 'VLC for Desktop' in 'open with' on a m3u file.
That is (maybe?) OK in case of files in .m3u (because UWP want's no real path, you need a StorageFile-Object)

But my m3u has URLs, there is no problem with URL's in 'VLC for UWP' .

This is a m3u, working in 'VLC for Desktop' (2 entries):

To separate 'M3U with files' from 'M3U with URLs' :
the VLC-Team could create a new extension for a renamed m3u
or
add a 'open file' in 'network' with a explanation : only m3u with URL's
