Audio, then mute video, then synced audio/video... ?

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place.

I'm using VLC 2.2.6 Umbrella under Windows 8.1.

The problem I'm having is that when I try to record a clip from a DVD, the result is audio for a while, then mute video, then synced audio and video for the balance of the clip.

What am I doing wrong?
