Old issue, still annoying; VLC and lock screen in Windows

Postby Joachimtobias » 28 Nov 2017 09:03

Hi.

I´m completely new to the forum and english is my second language, so please exsqueese me for possible blunders.

I´m on Windows 10 Pro and I´m using VLC as my default media player, and have been since a long time back. I do use the 32-bit (standard) version only because the UI is somewhat larger/simpler and I´m not sure if the issue I´m going to state is relevant for either the 64-bit version or possible beta-versions, but nevertheless: How can it be that one cannot have VLC open in pause mode without disabling automatic lock screen, even though I´m thouroghly aware that I can disable "prevent lock screen" in settings, but that requires a reboot of the program and it would be simpler to turn whatever is playing off (which is not desirable when I need to jump away from the screen to do whatever and still want to protect my private digital "everything")?

I´m not a programmer so I have little to no understanding of the tecnical issue(s) regarding this annoying lack of a feature that works perfectly well with YouTube and what have you of all kinds of streaming services. I understand that VLC is not a net-browser feature, but can it not be possible to re-code this option which, if prompted, will take the machine to lock screen while playing let´s say; a movie, without being disabled. In my "over-simplistic" mind, that would be to make Windows aware of a distinction between pause and play.

Lastly; is there any version of VLC where this problem isn´t valid? (Please, do tell!).

Kind Regards otherwise very content user,
Joachimtobias
