You Tube Videos using VLC

Hi,
I have viewed a number of Dog Training videos using You Tube. No problems
Some of these videos when viewed using VLC are pixelated or audio drops out.
I would like to have some of these videos in MP4 format that is why I am using VLC.

I will appreciate any suggestions as to what settings I may have wrong.
