Fix Window Size & Position

Postby shortwave » 16 Jun 2017 20:50

Hi, Everybody.

I have been searching for hours trying to find an answer to this, but all I get are the same suggestions, none of which actually work. All I want is for VLC to open in the top LHD corner, initially as a small window with just the controls showing. Then when I play a video I would like it to open up to a window of about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the screen size - adjustable to my preference. I am happy for the videos to be bordered or cropped within this window (depending on aspect ratio). But what happens is that the window opens up to reflect the aspect ratio, and in the case of 1920x1080 videos it "overflows" and the controls disappear off the edge of the screen, making it difficult to resize or close (I have to use Alt+2 to make it smaller). I have no problem playing full-screen, or even "maximising" the standard window, it's just when I'm sampling lots of different clips or videos, and don't want the player taking up all the screen and more! The nearest I can get is fixing the window size, but then it either 1) doesn't automatically open up to show the content, or 2) doesn't shrink back to the small "controls only" window when stopping play, and I'm left with lots of screen obscured with a black box and the VLC "logo".

My PC is running Win7 32bit, with a screen resolution of 1600x900 & I have recently updated VLC to v2.2.6, but the problem has been apparent in earlier versions. Resetting Preferences makes no difference, and for testing I downloaded a portable v2.2.6 so profile corruption can't be the problem - exactly the same behaviour occurs as with the fully installed version. This problem (and others like it) seems to date back to about early v2 onwards. Is it really not possible for this to be sorted?

Thanks.
