VLC won't play H264 mp4 video on Mac OS X

I'm having trouble playing a .mp4 file on my MacBook Pro. I've tested and confirmed that the file plays on my iPhone 6, and also on VLC 2.2.4 on Windows 10 Enterprise. So the file is not corrupted. VLC on Windows gives the following information about the video file.



This issue seems to be specific to my Macbook Pro.

OS: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, Mid 2014)
VLC: Version 2.2.4 Weatherwax (Intel 64bit)

I can play most other video formats and encodings on my MacBook Pro, but not this file. VLC gives no error when I try to open the file, but gives no information about the file, and the video length is shown as 0:00. When I press play, the play bar at the bottom of the screen just flickers a little, but there's no video displayed to the screen at all.

Any assistance diagnosing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having this problem as well - exactly the same file info.

As well as 2.2.4 I've tried latest 3.x nightly, 2.2.3 and all to no avail.. :-/

Did you ever figure out how to get around this? I am having the same problem. The mp4 file would play fine in VLC on my Windows 10, but won't play on mac os x or on my Ubuntu. I am using 3.0.6, which is the latest version for Mac.

Hi, can you upload the file so we can reproduce the issue ?

Possibly related, see the sample video from my other post. It plays fine on Linux and Windows. It doesn't play on Mac.
