Video conference-how to?

Postby buzzbuzz » 17 Jan 2017 22:57

Hi,
I am totally ignorant as it relates to using VLC and rstp. What I am trying to do, if it can be done, is to create a streamed video conference between a friend and me.
I have been told by someone to use vlc and obs (the latter of which i am familiar and do use).

The concept is for me to start the video and do a window capture using vlc of me in front of the computer. Then, I have been told to get rstp url from my guest and I assume put that url into the browser source of vlc. (I am not sure this is correct)

I would then, of course, start the stream using obs.

My goal is to stream the two of us into an online platform, using another product.

Does any of this make sense? Can someone give me a step-by-step tutorial how my video guest would obtain his url from vlc so i can input it into obs?

thanks..and sorry if this makes no sense, either in concept or terminology.
