Stream Audio (only!) to SONOS + display video locally

Postby rokit » 01 Jan 2017 18:04

I would like to stream ONLY the audio part of videos played locally on my PC (VLC 2.2.4 / 64bit) to my SONOS WLAN speaker.

I am able to set up a stream such that the audio is streamed via HTTP, using the transcoding profile: "Audio - MP3", but despite all attempts the video itself is no longer displayed locally. I already tried profiles including video but besides the fact that this corrupted the audio (or didn't work at all with my SONOS) it still did not play the video locally.

I found a workaround by installing a "virtual audio cable" driver and playing the video in ONE VLC player with audio output redirected to the virtual line (and a video delay of about 4,5 seconds to compensate the audio streaming delays); then used a SECOND VLC player to stream that virtual line audio input to my SONOS (as above).

I find it hard to believe though that this cannot be achieved using ONE player only so I'd like to ask the experts here to help me out.
Happy 2017 to all! :D
Thx,
Ronny
