VLC Media Player Won't Play Movies

Postby aschiffr » 20 Sep 2016 23:59

I've used the VLC Media Player successfully for many years playing movies from my hard drive. Last night, it just stopped recognizing the video files. When I checked with Windows File Explorer, the files were there. I tried the VLC Media Player on both my laptop and my desktop with the same result.

The way I get to the movies in VLC Media Player is to click on Media, then Open Folder, then I find the movie on the hard drive, click on the title, FullDisc, Movie Title, then Video_TS. In the past, that would start the movie. But now when I look in the area where the video files are normally located, the only message is that "No items match your search."

What's weird is that I never had this trouble until yesterday.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I have used VLC for years with no problems. I likewise get the "no items match your search" when I try to launch a video file in my Windows 10 computer. The folders are empty per VLC, but from file explorer they are all there and play fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled VLC without solving the problem. What now?

Try another method to play a video.

  • Drag & drop a video into the vlc window.
  • Click Media ---> Open file and navigate to the movie you want to play.
  • Right click a video ---> Play with VLC media player.
  • Right click ---> Open with and select VLC media player.
One of them should work.
