Recording a split-screen video with two webcams, is this possible?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

As the subject says. I have two webcams and would like to record with both simultaneously, with the output being a compressed split screen video. Can I do this with VLC?I'm primarily using windows, but Ubuntu is also available.

In principles, the mosaic and mosaic-bridge plugins are meant for that. It's not easy to set up though.

Thanks Rémi!

A quick google found me two tutorials on how to do this. I have no experience with making configs/commands for VLC, but I'll give it a shot. If it's too difficult, I can always settle with ManyCam and do the compression manually.
