Playing a single MP3 file from a folder

Please forgive me if I'm looking straight past something very obvious here, but how can I play just one media file (actually an MP3) from a folder containing several, without VLC going on afterwards to play the next, and then the next, and so on?

There doesn't seem to be anything in the Preferences options to cover this.

Don't you just click on the file?

The triangle at bottom right plays all the files in the directory, clicking on a file's name plays just that file - I think!
