Adding features to playlist

Is this possible in lua? I want to add two new features to playlist

1. When performing search in playlist and the folder name matches the term. VLC doesn't show the content of the folder. so I want to make it either show the content. or right click play what's inside the folder. preferably show what's inside the folder anyway.

2. Check for thumb in specific directory based on the folder/filename.


If it's possible, can someone please get me started. for example where and what to look for. Thanks

if anyone knows a good vlc alternative with playlist that can do the above and handle large media library, please let me know.
