MP4 streamout to AVI-DX50 ?

Postby revetwelch » 22 Oct 2005 23:41

I cannot understand why while VLC is able to read some AVI-DivX file (the one that says Codec DX50), it is not possible to stream out a MP4 to this format.
I tried AVI1 AVI2 AVI3, none of them are playable on my ARCHOS AV700.
My toys:
IMAC G5 OS X 10.4 20" 1.5GB 250GB + external USB2 IOMEGA DVD-ROM
SONY VAIO Laptop 750MHz
JVC DV Camcoder GR-DVM90
ARCHOS AV700 100GB
NOKIA 6230i 1GB

I have this mp4 movie that has been encoded with NERO.
This format doesn't play on my ARCHOS AV700.
It needs to be an AVI-DIVX movie.
If I open the mp4 with VLC and do info I get:
Video Codec: mp4v
Audio Codec: mp4a
If I open an AVI-DIVX (that works for ARCHOS) with VLC and do info I get:
Video Codec: DX50
Audio Codec: mpga
And VLC is able to play this format.
When I try to transcode my mp4 to AVI-DIVX with VLC, I choose AVI for Encapsulation Method, and I tried DIV1, DIV2 and DIV3 for Transcode options.
But nothing gave me a file that works (meaning: that I can play on my ARCHOS).
Since VLC is able to play this format I suppose it should be able to transcode to this format too.
But I cannot figure out what to do for that.

the AVI muxer in VLC is kind of broken (which might explain your problem)
