We are shipping the relevant code on Windows Phone and Android already. It's mainly a matter of stabilizing the iOS port and doing a release now.

Any news on that?

I've been trying VLC on iOS and playing a video over SMB doesn't seem to be able to pick up the .srt subtitle.

What am I doing wrong?

Indeed, any news on that? I have tried on smb too, making sure the file name exactly matches the video file name, changed to .sub too. Tips that are supposed to work for when you download the file to your iDevice -> it didn't help.
I've tried the Android version and indeed it has a very good support of subtitles, it can modify the delay and can even somehow magically download subs.
Would love to see it working.

I found solution for this problem ,, first you have to open video file direct from vlc not from explorer ,, second name subtile file with the same name of video ,, third and this is the very important one and takes hours of me to understand it

Some translators use coloring and marks to change font style ,, vlc can't understand this things over smb and subtitle don't work ,, so you have to choose pure subtitle without colors or marks to change shapes
