control vlc with media buttons on dell notebook

Hello everyone

I would like to control VLC with the nice media buttons on my notebook. However i have some problems finding a solution.

• First problem being that i don't know what commands these button will have to generate in order to achieve the desired effect.
• The second problem concerns the programm that dell uses for these buttons. I have located the apropiate entries in the registry that should allow to create new schemes and edit them. Unfortunately these entries are secured by a checksum which prevents simple editing. If there is a program that can edit these entries while maintaining the checksums i believe it would work... Someone knows such a prog?
