Capture device

Good afternoon,

I'm new with VLC and I have a very simple question : how can I select my sony camescope as a capture device ? Coul'd you give me a link where I coul'd learn about this ? My goal is to see on my computer screen what is in front of my camescope. For the moment, only the integrated webcam does work with VLC with my Windows 7 computer.
