Error compiling (Android): make: *** [.zvbi] Error 1

Postby tilleke » 08 Feb 2016 10:33

Hi,

This is the first time I try to compile VLC for Android. I have followed the instructions outlined on the AndroidCompile WIKI page (https://wiki.videolan.org/AndroidCompile/) and I have set up a PC running Ubuntu 15.10 (32bit). Everything seems to run fine although sometimes I need to re-run 'compile.sh' again and things will move forward. However, at a certain point I get an error and from there the compiling won't continue. I get the following error:

Code: Select all

checking for ld used by GCC... arm-linux-androideabi-ld checking if the linker (arm-linux-androideabi-ld) is GNU ld... yes checking for shared library run path origin... done checking for iconv... no, consider installing GNU libiconv configure: error: iconv() not found ../../contrib/src/zvbi/rules.mak:46: recipe for target '.zvbi' failed make: *** [.zvbi] Error 1 contribs: make failed
I just saw a recent post on StackOverFlow reporting a similar problem: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3525 ... -not-found. The error reported seems very similar to mine. The poster said that yesterday everything worked fine.

Any ideas what is going on and what I need to do to fix this problem? Could it be a temporary problem with the data downloaded from the git and I need to wait for an update and see if it resolves the problem?

Many thanks in advance for any input/suggestions to resolve this problem.

Resolved.

I actually had an earlier error as follows:

Code: Select all

src/smb_utils.c:32:19: fatal error: iconv.h: No such file or directory #include <iconv.h> ^ compilation terminated. make[1]: *** [src/smb_utils.lo] Error 1
which led to the error I indicated in my first post.

A workaround was posted on SO (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3525 ... -not-found) and that sorted out the problem. Many thanks to said user for finding and sharing the solution.

I hope this post will be useful for anyone else facing the same problem.
