VLC v0.7.0 for windows gives grey screen on TS MPEG2

Hi all,

I've just downloaded the latest v0.7.0 VLC for windows and it doesn't seem to want to play back any of the DVB-T TS MPEG2 videos I have recorded using my Avermedia DVB-T.

I do know however that an older version of VLC handled playback of the exact same files sometime mid last year. Unfortunately I have no recollection of which specific build it was, but again it was a windows build.

Currently all I get is the playback window opens, and a grey screen output.

details:

Standard Digital, 1024x576 PAL DVB-T Transport Stream MPEG2 video file
Windows XP SP1
VLC v0.7.0

the file will play back if I use Media Player Classis or Windows Media Plaer (I have the Elecard Moonlight MPEG decoder installed, so Windows XP will play back TS MPEG2 files), but VLC just gives me a grey screen and eventually freezes.

Any help / suggestions would be most appreciated.

Ultimately I am hoping to be able to stream my SD DVB-TS TV source to other machines on my network, and eventually in real-time would be fantastic.

Hi there,

I tried the v0.7.1 win32 build and I still get the grey screen with the message "Hardware YUV Overlay DirectX output" on the top line of the window.

more information:
All VLC settings are default
my video card is a Geforce 4 MX440
running Windows XP and DirectX 9.0b

I've uploaded a small Standard Digital DVB-T PAL transmission from Australia to the incoming directory, and the filename is 'Australian Avermedia DVB-T sample.mpg"

just giving feedback, the new v0.7.1 release still gives a grey screen when trying to play Avermedia DVB-T .TS MPEG2 video.

ok, further information.

the video source has been recorded on a PAL TV system, using an Avermedia DVB-T digital TV tuner. The video resolution is 720x576 pixels in a widescreen Transport Stream MPEG2 file format.

I've tried using all of the various video output filters but I get no video output at all - the window opens to the correct resolution, but there is no video or audio playback at all.

If I try using an AVI or VCD format MPEG1 file it plays back with no issues at all.

I have a Geforce4 MX440 video card using the v53.03 drivers, DirectX 9.0b and Windows XP running on a Pentium 4 2.40GHz machine with 512megs of DDR RAM and Hyper Threading enabled. All CODECs are installed that are needed, I can watch the recorded TS MPEG2 file using Windows Media Player with no issues.


OK!! more info which may be useful.. v0.5.1 for win32 works! It decodes and shows the Avermedia PAL format TS MPEG2 with no errors, running in a window with the 'Hardware YUV OVerlay DirectX output" message at top left.

hi I do not know if this helps but I find this problem sometimes when I use vlc to stream/play dvb-s streams. I usally get the grey window when the audio and video is out of sync by around .25 sec. if it is any more out of sync then the video grey window does not display or if it is a little less then .25 seconds the the video is losses frames until the video stream levels out and the audio and video is somewhat in sync.

I had the same problem. Try to move the active VLC-display-window on your desktop. After this, I have the movie in the overlay-window

bei mir kommt auch dieser output fehler. aber erst seit neustem
hab eigetlich nix gemacht
kannst du mir das nochmal erklären wie du das problem gelöst hast ?!

Try enlarging the filebuffer. Prefs->Modules->access->access_file

i know now where´s the problem,

videooutput module must be Windows GDI output, nothing else is working,
when i select anything other a grey screen is the result

i enlarged the buffer to 1200ms but nothing happens, the same problem!

i think i´ve to decode my *.BIN files an watch them with the WMP# =(

or can anybody help me???

Your DirectX video drivers are broken then.
