Choppy performance

So VLC play some videos in a choppy way. Like they would become a bit slow, not as smooth as they would on PC/Mac's VLC and even totally distorted sometimes. The videos I have were downloaded originally from Youtube using Youtube-dl.

Things I've tried:
- I noticed that they work in other players on iOS totally fine.
- Redownloading the videos using another Youtube downloader (I haven't tried to download the same video using Youtube-dl more than once so... ) didn't help
- I played in VLC's video settings, and the videos got a little bit better but still, choppy and distorted.

Any ideas?

What is your iOS device and how large are the downloaded videos? Full HD? 4K?

iPad Air, about 500mb and it's full HD
