Transfer via Local Network

The transfer of mp4-Videos from my PC to the iPad does not work for some of my videos.

In many cases I get an error message "Your input can't be opened VLC is unable to open the MRL 'smb://.......... Check the log for details "
when I try to transfer a video with the following characteristics :
Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
Codec: MPEG-4 Video (mp4v)

The transfer works with a video showing
Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 Video AVC

How can i find "the log for details" ?

Can I recode the file which can not be opened ?
How ?

This alone is interesting feedback for us already! What is your SMB server?

The log is currently not exposed in production builds, sorry.

I use Windows 7 on my PC.
I have not installed a special SMB server.
Should I install one ? How ?
