Where did VLC get the Audio CD metadata from?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Where did VLC get the Audio CD metadata from?

Postby domin144 » 26 Dec 2015 23:50

This is my first post here, so hello everyone!

I am trying to rip an audio CD to listen to it on my mobile phone. The ripping software I used is not able to fetch the metadata, which VLC fetches.
I am curious, where did VLC get the Audio CD metadata from?
The CD is Chillout & Chilli by Blue Cafe. It does not seem to be listed in CDDB database nor does the cd contain cd-text. Still, VLC manages to find out the Album name and track titles.
It just refuses to share the origin of the data with me ;)

Here are some messages generated by VLC:

Here is icedax output showing there is no cd-text data:

I don't know what I did, but icedax has changed it's mind and now it states the cd-text info IS present.

Among the possible factors are installation of wodim, running wodim, and trying "gvfs-mount cdda://sr0".

I consider this question closed.
