shut down vlc upon end of movie

is it possible to have VLC shut itself off upon reaching the end of a movie?

Apparently there is a command line option that will do this "--play-and-exit"

If you're using a shortcut under a graphical desktop like Windows or Ubuntu or Mac, you may have to modify your shortcut to pass the parameter. I just tried it under windows with version 2.2.1 and it works. Of course, I'm assuming that by "shut itself off" you mean have the program exit and close itself.
