rtsp with user/pass in url failing, only in ios

Hi!
I have a webserver which is redirecting a safari http request to a external rtsp stream with an embedded user/pass in the url. The stream works fine if I put it in vlc directly.

It also works fine from safari if there is no user/pass, vlc gets launched and then i get the basic auth dialog. But with the user/pass url i just get the "cannot play media".

Is there something that prevents a redirected rtsp stream fron using embedded user/pass?

Are there any ios logs? If jailbroke?

Never mind. User/password colon needed to be encoded. Let this be a lesson to me.
