here are more details:
windows 8.1 home 64 bit
VLC 2.2.1
10Gb mkv file ran with no fps issue on windows video app but low fps/stutter on vlc 2.2.1
computer spec:
ASUS ROG maximus hero vii Z97
i7-4790k
GTX 980
32GB DDR3
RAID0 SSD array boot drive + programme files (vlc is here)
file location is on another HDD
