Need help importing camcorder DV tape to AVI files.

Postby VLCpksky » 21 Apr 2015 20:55

I have a camcorder with DV tapes I would like to import to the usual AVI file on my computer. I have done this successfully with Windows Movie Maker, so all my connections and drivers should be OK. I have the VLC media player 2.2.1 running on Windows 7. I have tried the "Open Capture Device ..." from the Media menu followed by either the Play, Stream or Convert options from there with other options with no success. I can't even get the media player to run the tapes. Isn't this possible on media player?

Can somebody point me to some documentation of provide a walkthrough to get me started importing my DV tapes on my camcorder to the usual AVI file using VLC media player?

I don't know if what you ask is possible, but I use an old program called WinDV.exe http://windv.mourek.cz/ to do that. It is free.
