VLC Startup problem

Postby thedrunkenone » 19 Sep 2005 23:57

Hi, can anyone offer some advice on the following please.

Am running Redhat ES3 and trying to get VLC to work

have downloaded vlc-0.8.1.i386.tar.gz, vlc-devel-0.8.1.i386.tar.gz and redhat9-updates.tar.gz from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-fedora.html and installed all 3 using rpm -Uvh --nodeps *.rpm

Have downloaded and made sure that hal-0.4.0-10.i386.rpm is correctly running

Have also downloaded and made sure that dbus-0.22-12_0.99.el3.at.i386.rpm is correctly running

Output from ps ax | grep dbus | grep -v grep is as follows

6053 ? S 0:00 rpm -i --force --nodeps dbus-0.22-12_0.99.el3.at.i386.rpm
2791 ? S 0:00 dbus-daemon-1 --system

Which as far as I can tell is correct.

However when I run VLC I get the following

VLC media player 0.8.1 Janus
libhal.c 767 : org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceDoesNotExist raised
"Service "org.freedesktop.Hal" does not exist"

Remote control interface initialised, `h' for help

I have tried everything I can think of so would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

Just ignore it. you don't need libhal support anyways.
Don't use PMs for support questions.
