File transfers inaccurately

I have been attempting to transfer a 4.37GB mkv file to vlc.
Transferring either by wifi upload or through file sharing in itunes, the result is the same.
The file comes out as 400.3MB. The file plays,' but the audio is significantly distorted, with noise, at a comparable level to the audio (i.e. the noise level is proportional to the audio volume by some relation).

VLC for ios 2.2.0
IOS 8.1.1

File plays perfectly well in VLC for windows on my desktop, running windows 8.1
