Can't find controls for continuous loop inside an .avi file.

I have used the function of selecting start and stop positions in .avi files on VLC. There used to be a pair of red dots at the bottom of the screen that I could click at the desired begin and end points in the video and playback would loop indefinitely between those points.

I am now using 2.1.5, maybe there are certain versions only with that feature?
Or should I use a different video file format?
