Create stream with VLC that Quicktime will open

Hi,

I'm trying to create a stream of a video file that Quicktime on OS X 10.9 will open. The end goal is to get some video into Quartz Composer but that seems to use the same frameworks as Quicktime does.

I've googled and tried most of the approaches to create a rtp output but it seems that Apple has axed that. Is there currently a working way to get streaming video from VLC into Quicktime (on the same machine)?
