Does copying vids to drives (back and forth) cause losses?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Does copying vids to drives (back and forth) cause losses?

Postby HappyToday » 05 Aug 2014 00:47

Hi Forum Members

Has this question being asked here yet?

If so, can you direct me to the post so that I can see the answer? If not, can you say if my subject line thinking is correct?

I have a few MP4 vids and have being transferring them from one drive to another Namely a Windows laptop hard drive, external 1TB hard drive and 2GB hard drive

They were playing okay on all the drives using VLC (latest version) until recently when a message on the Android Samsung tab3 tablet appeared saying "Error Can't play media"

Now when I insert any of the USBs into the laptop, vid will play for a bit then start crackling and rainbow type colours appear prior to getting a blank screen and sometimes on the tablet, instead of getting images and a vid playing, there's only sound :(

It's obvious something has gone wrong as the vids played on all devices fine until recently

Do you think the cause is due to copying back and forth and renaming the vids?

Any ideas how to rectify or I gotta download from original source all over again?

Regards

Zach

PS: Excuse the long post, I just wanted to give as much background info to my question as poss :)
