C++ Runtime error

Postby jds53 » 30 May 2014 17:05

Have a Lenovo Twist laptop running Windows 8. When we try to play a DVD get the following Error message. Microsoft visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Any idea how we can correct this issue? Thanks,

these are normally visual c++ redistributables missing. i don't know if vlc needs c++ redistributales or which ones but there are a good number on microsoft's download page. install all of them

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/ ... le&first=1

-please note you need x86 for 32-bit
64 & x86 for 64-bit os
there's a third one you don't need [for arm]

-you can ignore the last 2 downloads [not visual c++ redistributable]

-some of them are service packs / updates i.e. you need to install the original one before you service pack update will work

-please note one of the 2012 versions are in chinese [but should be safe. it's microsoft site], you can grab update 3 from another site which will be in english

should take about an hour. should fix all vc++ error issues

Maybe only do a reset of the preferences.

Tools -> Preferences -> Reset Preferences

That dialog means VLC failed an assertion. If you have a symbolic stack trace, file a bug report. If not, then you will have to find a way around the bug.
