Accessing Time Capsule drives from VLC on iPad

Postby cromas » 17 Mar 2014 17:52

Is there a way to get an Airport Time Capsule disk to show up on VLC for iOS' "Local Network" view?

Regrettably, no, because Time Capsule doesn't support the UPnP or FTP protocols currently supported by VLC for iOS. It only does SMB and AFP, which is not understood by the current release of our app. We are looking into supporting those protocols in the future, but this is a long and dirty road to go down, so it will take time..

Is there any expectation for this feature anytime soon? I just purchased the app solely because the screenshot shows a "Local Network" option. I am glad VLC is charging for this app allowing users to give back. But I was a bit bummed by the lack of support for playing from my time capsule.

Might I suggest adding the lack of time capsule support in the description--just 3-4 words that time capsule storage play not supported or similar.

Hello, we don't sell VLC on the App Store. Scammers do. And we asked Apple to take them down 2 months ago, but so far, they didn't react to our requests. The official VLC for iOS is not available on the store right now (but will hopefully be back not too far in the future).

Regarding SMB support needed for the Time Capsule: we reimplemented the protocol in a clean library now and hope to bring it to iOS in the release just after the one pending right now.
