vlc-2.2.0 weatherwax webcam shows green screen

Since 10-2-2014 viewing webcam with VLC no longer works properly. Only green screen Used to work fine earlier with different versions of VLC. Reverting commits 04b0143 and b07ed16 solved this problem for me so I suppose something there caused this change.
My system: Debian jessie, i386, customized with a.o. fresh ffmpeg install.
Also custom build VLC.
Tested it with two different webcams, logitech c270 and philips spc900. Both with the same result.
Anybody else having a similar experience?
