HOW TO SYNCRONIZE SUBTITLES THAT KEEP SLIPPING

Postby fredddy » 27 Feb 2014 12:46

Hello to all! I just signed in because i need your precious help to solve a problem that i think concern millions of people and is time to solve it once for all! :)
Sometimes subtitles are not correctly syncronyzed and when playing a video with VLC, in order to adjust them, there is a feature that by pressing G or H you can set a positive or negative delay.But that is not really help in most cases, because subs keep slipping so you would need to adjust them every 30 seconds, so its very annoying to watch a movie and be ready every few seconds to press G or H to adjust the timing.
So, how is it possible to set a delay that automatically update its timing between subtitles and the audio?

I really hope to get a solution from you experts!
Thank you for now.

Tools > Effects and Filters > Synchronization tab:
Subtitle track synchronization: [0,000 s] << delay, +/- value; G, H hotkeys
Subtitles speed: [1,000 fps] << speed factor; It seems it does not work for SRT subtitles. Does the option work at all?

You better use some dedicated tool, some subtitle editor.
y = x*factor + delay
An example:
Film frame rate: 23,976 fps << slower, longer, so are subtitles
Your version of the film: 25 fps << faster, shorter
y = x*(23.976/25)
Schematically:

Code: Select all

|-+-----+-++-----+----+-+--+--| |-+----+++----+--++-+-|
Good subtitle editors can do the synchronisation in a user-friendly way by aligning 1 or 2 chosen subtitles (timeline points).

My subtitles keep slipping out of sync. They come increasingly early. However, I can't adjust the "Subtitles Speed" to less than 1.000 FPS. I tried entering 0.9, etc but it doesn't work. I can only make them go faster and more out of sync. How to slow the subtitles down?
