Hello Everyone, I'm a longtime VLC user but I recently acquired a 5.1 home theater system and would love to utilize it with VLC. I have downloaded a Dolby Digital encoded test file from their website and have been unable to transmit the pure audio from VLC to the receiver. Basically I currently have the laptop to the Denon X1000 receiver via HDMI and then another HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV.
I have read other forum posts on the issue, which mentioned to check the S/PDIF option (which I have done) also I have changed the audio output to DirectX, WaveOut, etc. Nothing is working. I originally had VLC 2.1.3 and thought it may have been an issue with the player, so I decided to downgrade to 2.0.8 but still no luck. The receiver is only receiving stereo signal, not the Dolby Digital the file has encoded.
I downloaded XBMC and it was able to transmit Dolby Digital after changing the audio output to HDMI, therfore it is not the file, reciever, or laptop. Is there anyway someone can walk me through step by step to getting true 5.1 with VLC. I prefer VLC over XBMC but I really would love this feature. Thank you in advanced!
