IPAD IOS7: the image disappears. Unable to bring it back

I have just installed VLC in my new ipad air ios7. Up until now everything is perfect. I was experimenting with hand gestures when the image dissapeared from the display and I could not bring it back again. It seemed similar to using another display in OSX and changing the window player to the other monitor. That made me suspect it may be an airplay issue (though I did not enable it, nor do I have any hardware to use airplay). The audio continues to play but the image is gone. If I select another video, it just changes to playing that archive without the image.
The only solution (sic) I found is to delete the application from the ipad and installed it again (along with the video archives). But the day after, by mistake, I made the same hand gesture (several fingers moving the image) again, and with the same bad result. And I had to installed it all over again.
Is it a bug? Am I doing something wrong? or is there a simple solution to bring back the image to the confines of the ipad display?
