no subtitles when switched on

why I cant display subtitles for ogm and mkv files? Eveytime i try switching them on they never display? Also I didn't have the default font file (/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeSerifBold.ttf) so i changed it to /usr/share/vlc/skins2/fonts/FreeSans.ttf

There is a known bug with text rendering with the X11 (not accelerated) video output.

Generally, you can have one Xv (accelerated, text rendering OK) video output, and all other ones are X11.[/url]
