Changes my .mkv file names to 'Avidemux'

Postby HayleyLaine » 11 Oct 2013 06:40

Hey,

Love the system, just one thing I'm wondering. I opened a TV show made up of .mkv files and it changed all the file names to 'avidemux'. I have never used avidemux so I'm wondering how to fix it.

The .mkv's in question were probably encoded with Avidemux, which probably set the "title" metadata to that string. Apparently, the person who ripped that TV show doesn't know how to set the export metadata in Avidemux...& also, apparently, Avidemux uses its own name for a title, if there is no other title specified.

VLC did not change the "file names" to "Avidemux"...but it might've changed the "string used in the playlist" to "Avidemux" if that string was in the title metadata, in the file.

VLC will use the file name in the playlist, if there is no title metadata in the file...however, if there IS title metadata in the file, VLC will use that string, no matter what it is.

To fix this, unfortunately, you have to edit or delete the title metadata for each file. You can do this in VLC, but I've seen times where it fails to actually save the metadata back into the file.

Also: I don't think this is Mac OS-specific & could be moved (note in case this gets moved: it was originally posted in "Mac OS X & iOS Troubleshooting").

Sigh, the above can't be a link: "You cannot use certain BBCodes: [url]."...so, I can't even link back to a post on this forum?
How about this: can long-term/trusted users be allowed links in sigs?
