how to redirect vlc fifo to read image raw data

I do not know the exact steps to modify VLC plugin to make it read image raw data under linux. I want this as I need to output images on the screen 25 times per second as video.

To accomplish this:

should I install the whole vlc source code ? like http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/last/

what is the c file that should be modified ?
