Can these be changed from within an SD script?

In Windows, I think I've figured out which file they are stored in (since the columns chosen are persistent across VLC restart), but changing the file contents while it is running doesn't affect VLC until the next restart.

OS X, on the other hand, I can't even identify which file contains this (or if it is a file at all).
