VLC Player reporting the wrong resolution

Postby seandcowan » 16 Jul 2013 20:40

I have a client that requested a custom resolution for some television commercials.

The original was converted from a 1920x1080 25 fps master using an Autodesk Flame into a 960x455 25 fps copy.

The Autodesk box agrees that the new clip's resolution is 960x455 @ 25 fps.

The new clip is then transcoded into a H264 - 960x 455 version using Quicktime Pro.

Quicktime Pro agrees that the new clip is now an H264 - 960x455 @ 25 fps.

When I look at it with the VLC player (on Mac or Windows) the reported resolution is 960x456.

I do not see this discrepancy when I transcode standard frame sizes (1920x1080)

Any insight would be appreciated.
